Psycho-
Educational
Evaluations

Psychological evaluations are performed by our licensed and board certified psychologist, Dr. Gary Patrick.  They are customized given the specific reasons for referral.  Psychological evaluations are designed to understand the student's barriers to learning.  These barriers to learning can include neurologically-based learning disorders (dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, etc.) and/or include those learning problems due to other comorbid conditions (ADHD, emotional issues that interfere with learning, vision and/or auditory problems, etc.).  The purpose of the evaluation is to obtain a broader understanding of why the student is struggling in learning.  Dr. Patrick has written a book on Barriers to Learning.

Educational evaluations are performed by educators and generally not by the psychologist.  In many cases the educational evaluation will be performed by the educational specialist who will be remediating the specific learning problems.  The educational specialist teams with our psychologist in providing feedback to parents and older students during a review session.  We believe that accurate diagnosis leads to the best treatment of learning issues, therefore, evaluation is performed in conjunction with the educational treatment specialists.

Following evaluations, we provide detailed reports with specific recommendations for academic accommodations, learning strategies, and support services to help students succeed.
