Sharing Our Expertise With the Community

Audience Watching Presentation

We believe educational support should not be limited to families who can pay for individual tutoring. When our educators have the availability, we are happy to share our experience with schools and community organizations through workshops, presentations, and other educational programs offered at no cost.

These programs are intended for groups rather than ongoing individual tutoring. Each program is developed in consultation with the requesting organization and depends on educator availability, group size, location, and the type of program requested.

Programs We Can Bring to Your Students

Programs can be tailored to the needs of your students and organization. Here are some of the areas in which we may be able to help.

SAT & ACT Workshops

Help students understand the SAT and ACT and prepare more effectively. Programs can be tailored to your students and may include test structure, question types, pacing, problem-solving strategies, common mistakes, and practical preparation techniques.

Experience Working With Schools and Student Groups

The Vinod Learning Center brings extensive experience working with students both individually and in larger school and group settings.

Vinod Thomas has worked with students in the Lake Norman area since 2009 and led ACT preparation for Pine Lake Preparatory for approximately a decade. Today, The Vinod Learning Center serves as Pine Lake Prep's official ACT Prep provider.

We have also provided focused academic review programs for groups of students, including AP exam preparation. Our goal is to bring the same thoughtful, student-centered instruction used in our individual work to programs designed for schools and community organizations.

What a Parent Said About a Group AP Calculus Review

“I reached out to Vinod, who has a reputation for successful test prep outcomes before the AP Calculus exam, to give my daughter and her classmates some optional extra study support. About 15 students elected to participate. Vinod condensed a year's worth of materials into a day of instruction, which included test taking strategy. Feedback from the students was that the session was incredibly helpful, and they felt more prepared and confident for the exam. Vinod has a knack for explaining complicated content in a way that students can understand and retain.”

How It Works

1. Tell Us About Your Students
Let us know who you serve, approximately how many students might participate, and what you would like the program to accomplish. You do not need to have all of the details worked out before contacting us.

2. We Explore the Possibilities With You
We will discuss the topic, format, length, location, timing, number of students, and educator availability. If we believe we can provide something useful, we will work with you to shape the program.

3. We Bring the Program to Your Group
Once we agree on a plan, we will coordinate the details with your school or organization and prepare a program designed around the students you serve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there really no charge for these programs?
Yes. We set aside a limited amount of time for complimentary programs for schools and community organizations. There is no instructional fee for a program that we agree to provide as part of this community initiative.

Does every request qualify for a complimentary program?
We would like to help whenever we reasonably can, but we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate every request. Availability depends on the type of program requested, the number of students, scheduling, location, the amount of preparation required, and the availability of an educator with the appropriate expertise.

How many students can participate?
That depends on the program. Some workshops work best with relatively small groups in which students can ask questions and solve problems. Other presentations can be useful for a larger audience. Tell us approximately how many students you expect, and we can discuss an appropriate format.

What ages or grade levels do you work with?

Most of our programs are designed for middle school and high school students and their families. The appropriate age range depends on the subject and purpose of the program.

Where can programs take place?
Programs may be offered at a school or organization, at The Vinod Learning Center in Davidson when appropriate, or virtually. The best format will depend on the program, group size, location, and scheduling.

How long is a program?
There is no single required length. A presentation might fit into an hour, while an academic or test-preparation workshop may benefit from additional time. We will discuss the amount of time available and what can realistically be accomplished within it.

Can parents participate?
Absolutely. College planning and college affordability programs in particular may be useful for students and parents together. We can discuss the audience when planning the program.

Can we request something that is not listed on this page?
Yes. The examples on this page are intended to show what is possible, not to limit what you can request. Tell us about the students you serve and what would be helpful. If we have an educator with the appropriate expertise and availability, we can explore an appropriate program.

Do you offer ongoing free tutoring through this program?
This initiative is primarily intended for group workshops, presentations, review sessions, and other defined programs. Requests for ongoing instruction or longer-term partnerships can still be discussed, but they may fall outside the scope of our complimentary community programming.
