Chemistry Tutoring in Davidson, NC

One-on-one chemistry tutoring in Davidson, NC, for high school chemistry, honors chemistry, and AP Chemistry. Chemistry can feel confusing when students have to connect atoms and molecules with equations, calculations, and laboratory observations. We help students make those connections, understand what each calculation means, and build a clear approach to solving problems.

Sessions can focus on current assignments, upcoming tests, or gaps in earlier material. We work through examples together, then have students try a related problem independently and explain their reasoning.

Chemistry courses and topics we support

  • High school chemistry and Honors Chemistry

  • AP Chemistry

  • Measurement, dimensional analysis, and mole conversions

  • Atomic structure, periodic trends, and chemical bonding

  • Chemical reactions, stoichiometry, and limiting reactants

  • Gases, solutions, and concentration

  • Thermochemistry, kinetics, and equilibrium

  • Acids, bases, and buffers

Understand the chemistry. Make sense of the calculations.

Connecting particles, equations, and observations

Chemistry asks students to connect what they observe with what atoms, ions, and molecules are doing. We use diagrams, chemical equations, and familiar examples to make those connections clear. Students practice explaining what a formula or reaction represents and why it behaves the way it does.

Building a clear approach to calculations

We help students identify what a problem is asking, organize the given information, and use units to plan a solution. Whether converting grams to moles or calculating a solution’s concentration, students learn why each step works and how to check whether their answer makes sense.

Making sense of experiments and data

We help students interpret graphs, data tables, and laboratory observations and connect them to chemical principles. Students practice identifying patterns, explaining results, and deciding whether the evidence supports a conclusion. For AP Chemistry, this includes explaining and justifying answers to free-response questions.

What a chemistry session can look like

A student may know how to balance a chemical equation but struggle to use it in a stoichiometry problem. We start by connecting the equation’s coefficients to mole ratios, then work through a calculation together—from grams of a reactant to grams of a product. Next, the student tries a related problem independently and explains each step. This helps us see whether the difficulty lies in the chemistry, the unit conversions, or the math, and decide what to practice next.

Meet your chemistry instructor

Vinod Thomas earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College, where he minored in chemistry, and holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from UNC Charlotte. He has worked with students in the Lake Norman area since 2009. His chemistry instruction connects concepts with calculations, helping students strengthen their foundations, work through current coursework, and become more independent problem solvers.

Chemistry lessons and worked examples

Watch Vinod work through chemistry problems step by step, explaining the ideas behind each calculation. Use the lesson below to review mole conversions and practice applying the method yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Can tutoring follow my student’s chemistry coursework?

Yes. Current assignments, class notes, lab questions, and upcoming tests can guide sessions. If an earlier chemistry concept or math skill is causing difficulty, we address it alongside the current material so students can build understanding while keeping up with class.

Do you support Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry?

Yes. We help students with Honors Chemistry and AP Chemistry, including conceptual questions, calculations, and interpreting experimental data. For AP Chemistry, sessions can also include multiple-choice practice and free-response questions, with attention to explaining and justifying answers.

What should my student bring to chemistry tutoring?

Bring recent assignments, quizzes or tests, class notes, and any study guides. A calculator, the periodic table or reference sheets used in class, and relevant lab instructions or data are also helpful. These materials help us match the session to the course and identify where support is needed.

Let’s talk about your student’s chemistry needs

Tell us which chemistry course your student is taking, what they are finding difficult, and any upcoming test dates. During a free consultation, we’ll discuss a starting plan, scheduling, and pricing.
